Spanish football league president Javier Tebas said today that claims of a refereeing conspiracy against Real Madrid are tantamount to “living in another galaxy.”

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho accused the referees of making key errors after his team lost 2-1 to city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Mourinho brought printed screenshots to the post-match press conference, claiming that Atletico should have received two red cards in the first half.

Responding to a text in the Spanish media claiming there was a conspiracy against Real, Tebas rejected the allegations.

“To claim that the referees are working against Real Madrid is to live in another galaxy. Such a narrative serves as an excuse to cover up other shortcomings that are already evident in the first games of the season. It is easier to point to a conspiracy than to explain what happens on the pitch,” Tebas wrote on social media.

Real are fourth in the table, six points behind leaders Barcelona, who have 21 points after winning all seven games.

Tebas has frequently criticized Real and its president Florentino Perez in recent years for disagreeing with the club’s plans to join the Spanish league in the European Super League in 2021.

He said in 2025 that Real had “lost their minds” after the club made an official complaint to the Spanish Football Federation over the league’s refereeing.
