Delroy Lindo is taking on a new role in his career. The Sinners star is stepping behind the camera for his first movie as a director. The project will also feature stars from both the MCU and DCU.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lindo is directing Jabari’s People, a Jamaican-set family drama. He will also star in the film alongside Winston Duke, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Wendell Pierce, and Seyi Andes-Pelumi. The project recently wrapped its 22-day shoot in Kingston, Jamaica.
The story follows Jabari, a Brooklyn teenager who moves to Jamaica’s Blue Mountains after his mother’s sudden death. He goes to live with his estranged grandparents. The move forces him to deal with family, grief, identity, and inheritance.
Andes-Pelumi plays Jabari, with Duke playing his father and Jean-Baptiste as his grandmother. Lindo portrays Jabari’s grandfather, while Pierce plays a doctor connected to the family’s New York community.
Delroy Lindo first came across the movie in 2015, when the makers approached him about starring in it. He later acquired the rights in 2021 and decided to direct the film himself. Lindo told the above-mentioned outlet, “From the time I got the rights, I knew I was going to direct this.” He added that the story “touched me in my soul as a person of Jamaican extraction.”
The 73-year-old also shared what it has been like to watch the cast bring the script to life. “I’ve had a pinch me moments,” he said. “They’re bringing the actual words to life. I’m pinching myself and saying, ‘Oh, it’s really happening.’”

Delroy Lindo has worked across film and television for several decades. His film credits include Malcolm X, Crooklyn, and Clockers, all directed by Spike Lee. He later appeared in The Cider House Rules, Gone in 60 Seconds, Da 5 Bloods, and The Harder They Fall.
Lindo has also worked extensively in television. He played Adrian Boseman in The Good Fight and later starred in Unprisoned. His other TV credits include The Chicago Code and Blood & Oil. His recent work in Sinners came before his move into directing with Jabari’s People.
