A new Netflix crime drama, from the creator of Starz’s Power series, is a major success for the streaming giant. In less than a week, the new show, Nemesis, has made a strong impression and quickly captured viewers’ attention.
Nemesis is trending high on Netflix among other streaming shows
According to FlixPatrol’s report for May 17, Nemesis is #3 on Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows in the United States. Furthermore, the series is #2 on Netflix’s global ranking as well. It debuted on the platform last week on Thursday, May 14, and has since maintained a respectable ranking on the streaming charts.
On the other hand, Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano’s MMA event is leading the charts in the United States, with The Roast of Kevin Hart at #2. Both of these events were live-streamed on the platform. The US ranking also includes other new arrivals, such as Man on Fire at #6, Devil May Cry Season 2 at #7, and Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine at #10.
Nemesis is co-created by Courtney A. Kemp, the mind behind Starz’s highly popular Power franchise. Meanwhile, Tani Marole is the other co-creator of the new Netflix show.
Kemp’s Nemesis centers on a LAPD cop trying to bring down a thief behind a series of heists. Its cast features Matthew Law as Detective Isaiah, Y’lan Noel as Coltrane, Gabrielle Dennis as Candice, Cleopatra Coleman as Ebony, Sophina Brown as Charlie, and Ariana Guerra as Detective Yvette, among others.
It’s Season 1 has eight episodes, all of which premiered on the same day. Overall, the show has garnered a divisive reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics have handed it an impressive 90% Tomatometer score. However, the audience has rated it 42%. The audience score is similar on IMDb, where it currently has 5.4 out of 10.
While there is no official information about a Season 2, Kemp has hinted that it might happen. “Netflix asked us to wrap it in a place where you wouldn’t need a second season, and I was like, ‘Bet, we’re not doing that,’” she explained. “But we knew that we did not want Coltrane to get caught. We didn’t want it to feel like you did all this for nothing, in a sense” (via Hollywood Reporter).
