National mixed doubles shuttlers Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing pulled off another upset at the China Masters today, beating a much higher-ranked home pair in straight games to enter the quarter-finals.
The world No 85 Malaysian duo, who only started playing as a pair four months ago, defeated ninth-ranked Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi 24-22, 21-19 in 48 minutes in their last-16 match at the Sports Centre Gymnasium in Shenzhen, China.
Both pairs have now won once each in their two encounters so far.
In the quarter-finals tomorrow, Pang Ron-Pei Jing will face either India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto or Taiwanese pair Liu Kuang Heng-Hsu Yin Hui.
In the opening round yesterday, Pang Ron-Pei Jing beat Hong Kong’s Chan Yin Chak-Ng Tsz Yau, who are placed 60 slots above them.
