Jessica Alba has been cast in the Netflix reboot of the 2004 rom-com 13 Going on 30. She will be joining the previously announced cast members Emily Bader, Logan Lerman, and Adeline Rudolph.
Alba’s role in the reboot and the logline are being kept under wraps. Moreover, representatives from Netflix have refused to comment on this casting news, as per Deadline.
Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original movie by Gary Winick, will serve as the executive producer. The rom-com reboot is in the early stages of production, which started last month in Los Angeles.
However, since this is a reboot, it is expected to follow the 2004 script, which tells the story of a 13-year-old girl who magically wakes up as her 30-year-old self and must navigate adulthood while rediscovering her identity.
The reboot will be directed by Brett Haley from a script by Hannah Marks with revisions from Flora Greeson. In an interview with Deadline, Haley described the original movie as one of those “rare, perfect films.” He also stated, “I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”
The producers of the new movie are Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum. Alongside Garner, Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming, Alyssa Altman, Marks, Gina Matthews, and Ted Gidlow are executive producing.
Alba returned to the acting scene from a break after Fantastic Four (2007). She recently served as an executive producer and also acted in the hit thriller Trigger Warning. This Netflix movie was a massive hit, debuting at No. 1 in 67 countries.
Along with the 13 Going on 30 reboot, Alba is also set to star in other future projects. These include Maserati: The Brothers with Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins. She will also star in Justin Chadwick’s action-thriller, The Mark.
As of now, reps from Netflix are keeping most of the reboot’s casting and production details under wraps. However, more news is expected soon. There is no official release date for the movie yet.
