A Hongkonger has died in a traffic accident in New Zealand, marking at least the second fatal crash involving city residents in the country this year.
The Chinese consulate in Queenstown on Thursday said that a “serious traffic accident” had occurred a day earlier along Crown Range Road near the South Island city in which a Hongkonger died.
“Our consulate is deeply saddened by the loss and has activated its emergency response mechanism immediately,” it said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim and will do our utmost to provide consular assistance for their arrival in New Zealand to handle the necessary arrangements,” it added.
The consulate did not provide details of the victim or the nature of the accident.
A notice issued on Wednesday by New Zealand police said a crash involving a car and bus occurred along the Crown Range Road near Cardrona, a township home to a ski resort, at about 10.15am.
