Elliott Anderson (England, Man City)
The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar World Cup campaign, impressing with his energy and ball-winning ability in midfield and helping England reach the semi-finals. Anderson started every match for England and ranked third for minutes played among the Three Lions.
Enzo Fernandez (Argentina, Chelsea)
The Chelsea midfielder has produced two goals for his nation, including a stunning equaliser in the semi-final win over England, to help reigning champions Argentina reach a second straight World Cup final.
Bruno Guimaraes (Brazil, Newcastle)
Brazil’s midfield conductor registered four assists in only five matches before their round-of-16 exit. Ahead of the final between Argentina and Spain, only France winger Michael Olise (with five assists) has set up more goals than Guimaraes.
Erling Haaland (Norway, Man City)
Haaland took the world by storm in his first World Cup, scoring seven goals, including a stunning brace against Brazil in the round of 16 to send Norway into the quarter-finals for the first time in their history. Only Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe (both with eight goals) have outscored him.
Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina, Liverpool)
Mac Allister has been superb in Argentina’s midfield, contributing a goal in the quarter-finals and a crucial assist in the round of 32. The 27-year-old was a thorn in England’s side during the semi-final, twice hitting the post, and has been a vital member of Lionel Scaloni‘s side.
Lisandro Martinez (Argentina, Man Utd)
Martinez has been a defensive mainstay and formed a brilliant partnership at the back with Tottenham Hotspur‘s Cristian Romero. The Man Utd defender has kept two clean sheets and was a standout performer against Cape Verde, scoring one goal and providing an assist to help his side progress.
Mikel Merino (Spain, Arsenal)
Merino’s tournament can be summed up by one word: clutch. The Arsenal midfielder made history by becoming the first ever player in FIFA World Cup history to score the winning goal in two different knockout stage matches as a substitute, doing so against Portugal and Belgium.
Martin Odegaard (Norway, Arsenal)
Norway’s captain supplied four assists, forming a devastating partnership with Haaland during his country’s incredible run to the quarter-finals. Odegaard also made history by becoming only the third player on record (from 1966) to assist a goal in each of his first three World Cup appearances.
Pedro Porro (Spain, Spurs)
Porro has been sensational for a Spain side who boast the best defensive record in the tournament, with six clean sheets. The 26-year-old has scored two goals, including a brilliant winner against France to send his side to the World Cup final.
Rodri (Spain, Man City)
Spain’s captain has been at the heart of their run to the World Cup final, dictating play and setting a World Cup record for completed passes, with 655. Having won the Treble in club football and the UEFA European Championship with Spain, Rodri is looking to complete an impressive set by lifting the World Cup.
William Saliba (France, Arsenal)
Saliba anchored France’s defence with four clean sheets as they reached the semi-finals. The Arsenal centre-back displayed his defensive prowess, shutting down numerous counter-attacks with his recovery pace.
Ismaila Sarr (Senegal, Crystal Palace)
Sarr scored four goals and provided one assist to finish among the tournament’s leading goal contributors. He also inspired Senegal to the knockout stages where they suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Belgium.
Djed Spence (England, Spurs)
The Spurs full-back has enjoyed a breakout tournament, helping England reach the semi-finals. Spence averaged the most tackles per 90 for England, with four. He also recorded the fastest top speed in the tournament, which was on display when he made an excellent last-ditch tackle to deny Argentina a goal in the semi-finals.
