Tyla rarely plays it safe on the red carpet.
On Sunday night, she stayed true to form, arriving at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in a blue snakeskin-print bra and low-rise skirt. She completed the look with a coordinating teal choker and beige heeled pumps.
The singer is among the presenters at this year’s ceremony, returning to the VMAs after a busy year across both music and fashion.
Her standout looks this year have included a lot of Valentino, from the skin-baring turquoise-and-crystal gown she wore at the Met Gala to a pale pink, lingerie-inspired minidress for the house’s fall/winter 2026 show in Rome.
Fashion has become an increasingly important part of the singer’s world. While getting ready for the Met Gala in May, Tyla told Vogue that her relationship with clothing changed once her career began taking her inside the industry.
“I always just liked dressing up and playing dress up like with my sisters,” she said. “And my mother and I would always watch the Met Gala and, like, rate everyone’s outfits.”
But attending fashion shows gave her a different perspective. “I started learning, like, from stylists and whatnot,” she continued. “I just really fell in love with how it is its own form of art.”
That approach was evident in her Met look, which Tyla created with Valentino creative director Alessandro Michele and stylist Ronnie Hart. “I love when my body is the outfit,” she told Vogue. “I don’t know, it’s just so Tyla.”
Her fashion résumé expanded again this summer when Kate Spade New York named her a global brand ambassador. Tyla fronted the label’s fall 2026 campaign shortly after releasing A*Pop in July. “Kate Spade as a brand is colorful, creative, and expressive, which is also the feel for my new album, A*Pop,” she told ELLE.
The album marked a new chapter for the South African singer, who said she conceived the project partly as a tribute to the ambitions she had growing up. “I honestly wanted to honor my inner child,” she explained on Today in July.
