Tuesday is Deadline Day in the transfer market for Premier League clubs who have until 11 p.m. to finalise their squads until January.
It’s set to be a frantic final few hours in the hunt to snap up the best deals and offload unwanted players who are taking up valuable room in the wage budget.
Here’s the transfer business that all 20 Premier League clubs are expected to focus on…
After completing a move for Ezri Konsa in recent days, Arsenal are looking at options to bolster their attack. Sources have told ESPN that the Gunners have been offered the chance to sign Lyon’s Malick Fofana, but it is unclear if they will make a move for the winger before the deadline.
Unai Emery’s side have been one of the busiest in the transfer window so far and that could continue right up until the deadline.
A move for PSG’s teenage sensation Ibrahim Mbaye has been rumoured while Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton could patch up the backline.
Emery also had some interesting comments on the relationship between Villa and Chelsea after the clubs crossed paths several times in regards to deals this summer.
“They want to kill us. And we want to kill them … it is not a good relationship. Of course, because we have good players and we can as well sign players from them, but it’s not a good relationship, it’s a deal for money and a deal for players. And they will want to kill us.
“They are signing Morgan, they are signing Emiliano Martínez to kill us … I am happy for Emiliano Martínez, I am happy for Morgan Rogers and, of course, I know I am not happy for Chelsea.”
Tammy Abraham could exit Villa before the deadline.
The concern for Cherries fans is losing England midfielder Alex Scott amid reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. But Marco Rose has said Scott will stay: “I’m not just confident, I am sure. Is there 120%? I am sure.”
Rose said about further Bournemouth business: “We are in a good spot; we have a competitive team. I think we compete in every position with at least two players. That should be enough.
“For me, it is not necessary to look at other players.”
El Hadji Malick Diouf‘s arrival from West Ham was a key one for Keith Andrews’ side, while there was sadness as club legend Ethan Pinnock departed for Coventry.
Zian Flemming has been linked with the club for some time now as he reportedly desires a move away from Burnley. The striker, who scored 11 goals for Burnley in the Premier League last term, is also reportedly being chased by Ipswich Town.
Brighton resisted a £50m bid from Liverpool for Yankubah Minteh, sources told ESPN, and are seemingly counting down the seconds to the transfer window slamming shut.
“When the window is closed I demand from him that he is fully committed to this club,” Fabian Hurzeler said about Minteh.
“There are dreams and wishes for players, but in the end we always need to figure out what’s best for the club.
“We’ve had an exchange with him. At the moment he is definitely a Brighton player. It’s very important to understand his thoughts but also our planning.
“As a club we try to develop players. The last few years have shown that the whole environment gave him a lot of trust and belief that he is capable of having this progress. It’s always a give and take and he’s gotten a lot from us.” Hurzeler said last week about possible incomings: “Everything can happen but it has to be a good fit regarding personality, character and our style of play.”
The club have completed the signing of another South American talent though as midfield prospect Matias Orozco from Colombian side Deportivo Cali.
Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez is expected to exit after he was replaced by Emiliano Martínez, who Chelsea signed from Aston Villa.
Sources have told ESPN that Chelsea are expecting an offer from City for midfielder Enzo Fernández before Tuesday’s deadline, while Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo could be set for moves across the capital to Spurs.
Frank Lampard played down the prospects of any more transfer business after Coventry lost to Hull at the weekend.
“No, I don’t think so,” he said. “In terms of what we have brought into the club and where we’re at.
“Who knows because there’s a few days [to go].”
Mykhailo Mudryk, from Lampard’s former club Chelsea, has been linked.
Losing Ismaïla Sarr was the key worry at Crystal Palace but that now looks unlikely. Pierre Sage admitted there was interest was Liverpool but he has no interest in losing his key winger.
“When you have three years on the contract, it is not easy to leave,” Sage said.
“I understand that for everybody to have this kind of contact [from Liverpool] is difficult, because you hesitate a lot. But for the moment, he is with us. He is under contract.
“He is injured and maybe you can make a link between his injury and the situation. But for me, he is honest and I have no problem with that. We just want him on the pitch as quickly as possible.”
Everton have agreed a deal to sign United States striker Folarin Balogun from Monaco for £40 million ($54m) including add-ons, sources told ESPN. They could also bring back ex-player Richarlison from Tottenham after he wrote an angry social media post requesting the move. Iliman Ndiaye is set for a move to Man City after sources told ESPN a deal had been agreed on Monday evening. Beto is set for a £15 million ($20m) move to Fiorentina in Italy, sources told ESPN, potentially opening up a gap in the squad for the U.S. forward. Jack Grealish may still reappear in Everton colours after last season’s loan was ended early due to injury. Everton CEO Angus Kinnear admitted they remain “in contact” with Grealish, who has since played again for parent club Manchester City. A player set to stay at Everton is Harrison Armstrong. The club turned away from a £40m deal to take Armstrong to Nottingham Forest after their fans made their unhappiness known. Moyes reacted: “I think you always have to consider supporters; supporters aren’t always wrong. “But then there’s also times where I’ve had people at clubs who are really powerful and make difficult decisions. “I’d bring into that Bryan Gray, who was at Preston North End, and Sir Philip Carter, who was at Everton when I first came in. Not always decisions are popular, and sometimes they have to do it for different reasons. “Managers have to make decisions on players sometimes and they feel like huge decisions. But there’s sometimes bigger decisions to be made and the club will, I’m sure, make what they think is the right one. “If I’d say something to them [the fans], I’d say their manager’s an Evertonian.” Alvaro Arbeola’s side are being linked with yet another Real Madrid youngster in Manuel Angel. It follows on the signings of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios over the summer. Kenny Tete could be leaving however, with a move to Everton strongly rumoured in recent days. Arbeola has insisted that Fulham will be busy before the deadline. “I think we could improve our squad is every position, every manager thinks that they can improve. I’m looking for players who can fit in my system, to play my way. We are ready to improve the squad in the next days”, said Arbeloa. Liam Millar had been linked with a return to the Championship — but after scoring the winner at the weekend against Coventry, Hull will surely keep the Canada winger. Stoke’s Sorba Thomas has been linked with a move to Hull on Tuesday. Ipswich are attempting to bring in Tammy Abraham on loan from Aston Villa, according to the Press Association. Gary O’Neill said: “We’re trying to do a couple of bits if we can. No confirmation from me on positions, but we are trying to do a couple more if we can. “Let’s see how the next couple of days unfold, but we are trying.” Joe Rodon pulled up with a hamstring injury on Sunday against Brentford which may give Leeds an unexpected headache. “Senior centre-back options, wing-back options — we don’t have the most, so yes, we will stay awake until Tuesday night,” Daniel Farke said. “One or two more additions would definitely be helpful. But with the players I’ve got, I’m very happy.” On Rodon’s injury, Farke added: “I hope he’s not out too long because he’s a key player, and especially also in the centre position, we don’t have too many senior options. It would be a big blow if Joe’s out for a while.” Wilfried Gnonto has been pictured in Fiorentina colours but his loan might hinge on Leeds finding a replacement. They had previously been linked with Chelsea‘s Mykhailo Mudryk. Cody Gakpo was the subject of interest from Manchester City. They were in talks with Liverpool who valued him at £85 million ($115m), per ESPN sources. But Gakpo will stay after Liverpool rebuffed an offer for him, sources told ESPN. Liverpool will sign 18-year-goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk for £30 million, sources have told ESPN. But he will remain on loan at the Belgian club this season. In other goalkeeper news, keep an eye on whether Giorgi Mamardashvili exits before Tuesday night. Harvey Elliott could be one to watch. After a terrible loan to Aston Villa last season he is back with Liverpool but hasn’t made the matchday squad for either of their first two league matches. Enzo Fernández could still become a City player before the deadline expires. City are likely to make a bid to sign the Chelsea playmaker on Tuesday, sources told ESPN. City have agreed a deal with Everton for Ndiaye worth an initial £60m with another £5m in add-ons which is set to be completed before the deadline, sources added. Michael Carrick has left the door open for more Manchester United’s signings before the transfer deadline, saying “we’ll have to wait and see.” The club are still working on potential targets at left-back, sources have told ESPN. But with just hours to go before the window closes on Tuesday, Carrick has said that he is remaining cautious about the possibility of further boosting his squad. “It’s always difficult to say, to be honest, when there’s so little time left,” Carrick told a news conference after the 5-2 win over Ipswich on Sunday. “I think the situation that we’re in, I think the business that we’ve managed to do, I’m pleased with. I think we’re a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team, you know. Adding Marcus [Rashford] into that feels like a new signing. “So, in that respect, we’re quite happy. We’re always open to if there’s something else to be able to add, so I wouldn’t shut that down, but as it stands, we’ll have to wait and see.” A strong start to the season has seen optimism rise on Tyneside and it could sky rocket should they get a deal for Matias Fernandez-Pardo of Lille over the line. The energetic attacker has been linked with a £55m move and he’s expected to join the club before the deadline. A player that could be leaving is Nick Woltemade. The German has struggled since joining Newcastle and an exit has been touted, though manager Matias Jaissle refused to be drawn on any speculation. Quizzed on the future of the former Stuttgart man, he said: “I’m not a coach who takes part in rumours. Nick is a part of the squad, we have a strong squad but we also know we’re still active in the transfer market with a couple of days left.” Forest have completed the £22m signing of Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace in a major boost to their defence. The club have also been linked with Gustavo Puerta from Racing Santander, with the defensive midfielder standing out for Colombia at the World Cup this summer. There has also been reported interest in Jacob Murphy from Olivier Glasner’s side. Sunderland are working overtime to bring in several new faces ahead of the deadline, with a winger and defender priority. A move for Igor Paixão of Marseille has been rumoured the past few days while Malick Fofana from Lyon is another name in the mix. In terms of a defender, a loan for Kevin Danso of Spurs has been mentioned after the Austrian told Roberto De Zerbi he wants out. Richarlison has opened the door for an emotional return to Everton but warned “never again will anyone decide my future for me” in a thinly-veiled dig on social media. De Zerbi has said that Richarlison, Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr have asked to leave Tottenham. Spurs are exploring a loan move for winger Mykhailo Mudryk. De Zerbi is keen on adding a winger with Spurs having pushed to sign Everton’s Ndiaye after failing with a move to sign Gakpo, who is now expected to stay at Liverpool despite interest from City. A deal for Ndiaye is now unlikely with sources having told ESPN that City have agreed a deal with Everton for the Senegal international. Spurs have subsequently turned to other options including a surprise move for Mudryk, who is free to play again after a resolution was reached between the Football Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency having spent 20 months on the sidelines after returning an adverse urine sample. With Danso likely leaving, Spurs are also trying to do a deal for defender Tosin, sources have told ESPN. Premier League clubs can only have one player on loan at the same time from another team in the division. Spurs’ negotiations with Chelsea over Mudryk are over a loan so if they also want Tosin to arrive before Tuesday’s deadline, they will have to sign him permanently.
