The world-famous Electric Brae in South Ayrshire was named alongside locations across the British Isles, including the M62 at Stott Hall Farm and the Coventry Ring Road.
To pull the list together, Marshall Motor Group has analysed hundreds of drivers’ experiences on sites like Reddit to find the spots that have truly baffled motorists.
Ben Welham, motoring expert at the group, said: “British drivers face some genuinely unique roads that you simply won’t find anywhere else in the world.”
They added: “While some are challenging for drivers, others are just plain strange. And many have become destinations in their own right, attracting drivers from seeking to experience the curiosities for themselves.”

Why this ‘gravity-defying’ road in Ayrshire is one of the strangest in the UK
Located in South Ayrshire, Electric Brae or Croy Brae has been “disorienting” drivers for years, with its strange optical illusion that makes it look as though cars are rolling uphill.
According to Marshall Motor Group, one driver on Reddit who experienced the Scottish phenomenon said: “It has to be experienced to be believed.”
The effect occurs because the inland end of the quarter-mile stretch of road is 17 feet higher than the coastal end, with the slopes of the surrounding landscape creating the unnerving illusion.
On sites like Tripadvisor, visitors have expressed how strange they found the illusion, with one person writing: “Totally freaked my daughters out here. Didn’t tell them what it was, got to the spot, put the car in neutral and asked: ‘Are we going up hill or down hill?’

“When I released the brake and the car rolled in the opposite direction, they lost it. It was great. They both got out of the car to watch it go and made videos.
“Loved it. It’s a quick drive from Turnberry and easily done in a few minutes time.”
Another added: “Really hard to explain how it feels – try it for yourself. It’s fun to detour here if you’re in the area. Just be careful on the road, it’s busy and the cars travel fast.”
