Rupert Grint is coming back to reprise his iconic Ron Weasley role after 15 years. The 38-year-old actor famously took over the role in all eight of the Harry Potter movies by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Grint will be joining the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast, per a report from Variety. Fans can catch the actor live at Broadway’s Lyric Theater from February 2, 2026 onwards. Grint will be part of the overly popular, 17-week-running stage production till May 30, 2027. The update further states that Grint will portray an older version of his character in the play. That’s because the plot of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, focusing heavily on Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s kids.
Grint follows in the footsteps of Tom Felton, who stars as the older version of his character Draco Malfoy. Felton is currently associated with the production and will remain a part of the same till January 2027. Meanwhile, Grint seems elated to be coming back to his iconic role.

The 38-year-old recalled that he was 11 years old when he got cast as Ron Weasley in the movies. Now, reprising the role after such a long gap, Grint said, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old, and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life.”
He added, “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting.”
Following his stint in the Harry Potter movies, Grint was associated with several projects, namely Nightborn, Charlie Countryman, and Knock at the Cabin, and more. He will also play Bob Cratchit in an upcoming Johnny Depp movie, Ebenezer.
