If you’ve been thinking about switching wireless carriers, Mint Mobile just launched a limited-time promotion that drops the price of its prepaid plans even lower.

The new offer applies to Mint’s 3-month prepaid plans and cuts pricing across several data tiers, including its Unlimited option. Depending on the plan you choose, prices currently range from around $10 to $25 per month with the promotion applied.

Here’s what to know before you switch, including which plans qualify, what the fine print says and how much you’ll pay upfront.

Mint Mobile operates on T-Mobile’s 5G network and supports both eSIM activation and physical SIM cards. Customers with compatible devices can activate service the same day using eSIM instead of waiting for a SIM card to arrive by mail.

How to set up Mint Mobile with eSIM

Customers with compatible phones can activate Mint Mobile service using eSIM, which allows you to set up wireless service digitally without waiting for a physical SIM card to arrive in the mail.

Before purchasing a plan, make sure your phone is unlocked, supports eSIM and is connected to Wi-Fi. During checkout, select “eSIM Delivery” instead of a physical SIM card.

Once you purchase your plan, download the Mint Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and follow the activation prompts. You’ll enter the activation code sent to your email, then install the eSIM directly through the app or your phone’s cellular settings.

What to know before you switch to Mint Mobile

The discounted pricing is only available for new customers during the first three months. After that, regular pricing applies unless customers renew with one of Mint Mobile’s longer prepaid plans.

Like most smaller prepaid carriers, Mint Mobile users can also experience slower data speeds during periods of heavy network traffic because it operates on T-Mobile’s network as an MVNO, or mobile virtual network operator. Unlimited customers who use more than 50GB of data in a month may notice reduced speeds, hotspot use is capped at 20GB and video streams in standard definition.

Still, for budget-conscious shoppers, light-to-average data users or anyone looking for a secondary phone line, the promotion is one of the cheaper prepaid wireless deals currently available.
