Hong Kong’s northern districts were drenched in a downpour on Wednesday night when the Observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning, with multiple flooding reports received across the area.
The warning, issued at 9pm, signalled heavy rain exceeding 30mm (1.2 inches) in an hour that was likely to continue, and cautioned of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
At 9.45pm, a flooding alert was issued for the northern New Territories.
Ta Kwu Ling was among the hardest‑hit areas, the Observatory said, with more than 70mm of rainfall recorded between about 8.45pm and 9.45pm.
From 7.45pm to 9.45pm, more than 120mm was recorded in north district.
By 10.23pm, the Observatory warned that severe rainstorms in the area could cause serious flooding, urging the public to stay vigilant and take precautions.
