Cross-boundary talent flows within the Hetao innovation hub will be launched by June next year at the latest, Hong Kong’s technology minister has said, after the city’s leader pledged to enable the free movement of data by the end of 2026.
Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong revealed the deadline while also discussing how semiconductor production, which is due to begin at the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) this year, could commercialise scientific findings and pave the way for mass production in the Greater Bay Area.
“We hope to launch a pilot scheme for data flows as soon as possible. The flow of people must begin by June 30 next year at the latest,” he told a radio programme on Sunday.
