A Hong Kong constable is suspected of discharging his service firearm accidentally at a police base in Mong Kok, the force has said.
Police said on Wednesday the officer was loading a round into his weapon at the West Kowloon Regional Emergency Unit’s base at 11.01pm the previous day.
A single round was believed to have been fired. No one was injured.
Police stressed that the force had strict regulations covering the use of firearms and that an investigation was under way.
In May, an officer accidentally fired a single round when she was loading her semi-automatic pistol in a designated loading area on Concorde Road in Kai Tak, with no injuries reported.
In June last year, an officer’s semi-automatic firearm was accidentally discharged at the force’s headquarters in Wan Chai while he was unloading the weapon in a designated area. No one was hurt.
