Two Hong Kong media organisations have joined forces with one of Kazakhstan’s largest state-owned conglomerates to strengthen collaboration in journalism and information exchange.
The South China Morning Post also signed a partnership with Kazakhstan’s special financial zone to boost ties between Central Asia, Hong Kong and mainland China.
The agreements are among 13 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed on Tuesday between Hong Kong sectors and their counterparts in Kazakhstan, as Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu led a high-level delegation of local and mainland representatives to explore new opportunities in the region amid geopolitical uncertainties.
Under an agreement between the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong News Executives’ Association and state media outlet Khabar Agency, the parties will jointly promote “accurate narratives” about their regions, while facilitating professional exchanges, training programmes and study visits for journalists.
In a joint statement, the two Hong Kong organisations said the visit underscored the city’s role as a “superconnector”, fostering “deeper media collaboration with Central Asia and enhancing information sharing across the industry”.
The organisations added that they promoted Hong Kong’s open and diversified media ecosystem and technology application, encouraging Central Asian organisations to leverage the city as a platform for industry collaboration and regional expansion.
