General Motors Canada, Oshawa, Ont., has been the top-selling electric vehicle (EV) automaker in Canada year to date through June, supported by an expanding lineup from Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC.

The company has led the Canadian EV segment for three consecutive quarters. In the second quarter, GM’s EV market share rose to 23.2 per cent from 8.1 per cent a year earlier, moving the company from sixth to first place in national EV sales.

EVs now represent 8.7 per cent of GM Canada’s total vehicle sales, with more than 60 per cent of EV buyers new to Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac.

“For the past two years, GM has led the Canadian auto industry in total sales, and now that leadership includes EVs,” said Shane Peever, vice-president of sales, service and marketing at GM Canada. “With 13 EVs across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, we’re offering Canadians more choice than ever, and that’s bringing new customers into the GM family.”

In the second quarter of 2025, the Chevrolet Equinox EV ranked second in the compact all-electric SUV segment, driven by demand for affordable, family-friendly EVs. Cadillac led the luxury EV market with a 30.5 per cent share, with the OPTIQ being the most-registered luxury EV in Canada through June.

GM Canada offers 13 EV models across its three main brands, including full-size trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and GMC Hummer EV; luxury SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade IQ, OPTIQ, and Lyriq; affordable SUVs like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV; and BrightDrop commercial EVs for fleet customers.
