Georgia man sentenced for threats against former President Trump

A Georgia resident has been sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for transmitting threats to kill former President Donald J. Trump.

A release from the Department of Justice says Jauan Rashun Porter, from Rome, Georgia, made the threats during a TikTok livestream on July 26, 2025, where he detailed plans to assassinate Trump at an upcoming rally.

Authorities say Porter joined a TikTok livestream about President Trump captioned “Alligator Alcatraz,” commenting: “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.”

Acting Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service Atlanta Field Office, Robert Donovan, said federal authorities acted quickly to address those threats.

“When free speech devolves into threats against the President of the United States or any of our protectees, you can expect the United States Secret Service to bring those criminals to justice,” Donovan said

During the investigation, authorities found pistol ammunition and explosive materials in Porter’s apartment, though no firearms were discovered.

U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg noted the gravity of the crime.

“Threatening to kill the President of the United States is an abhorrent crime that cannot be tolerated.”

Porter has a history of felony convictions, including terroristic threats and acts, and was on probation for a 2023 conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and battery domestic violence.

U.S. District Judge William M. Ray II sentenced Porter, who pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate threats, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service with assistance from local law enforcement agencies.
