Lincoln, Ford Motor Co.’s luxury brand, will bring back the Corsair crossover for the 2027 model year by importing the hybrid model from China into the United States, the company said Tuesday.
The announcement comes after the brand earlier this month said it was phasing out Chinese production for the U.S. market as a part of plans to grow U.S. manufacturing for Lincoln starting in 2030.
Those plans remain in place, Lincoln spokesperson Kelly Wysocki said, but the China-assembled Corsair in the meantime will fill in the portfolio gap left by the end of Corsair production in December at the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky. That facility is being retooled for the launch of the Ford Fathom electric midsize pickup truck on the new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform.
“These moves support Lincoln’s North American growth plans and bolster Ford’s position as America’s No. 1 auto producer,” Wysocki said in a statement.
Lincoln since 2024 has imported the Nautilus SUV from China. The Corsair will come from a different plant in central China’s Chongqing under Ford’s joint venture with Chang’an Automobile Group. It’s expected to be subject to a similar 52.5% tariff as the Nautilus is, Wysocki said.
The automaker citied tariffs as the leading reason for phasing out Chinese imports and increasing U.S. manufacturing. President Donald Trump has increased tariffs on Chinese vehicles and parts, citing national security concerns. Former President Joe Biden in his final days in office also signed a ban on China-originating vehicle parts that takes effect in the coming years. The requirements have prompted Polestar, a Volvo-affiliated electric vehicle brand of China-based Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd., to leave the United States.
Orders for the 2027 Corsair Hybrid now are open with deliveries expected early next year. The vehicle starts at $46,495 with delivery increasing that to $48,790. The cost is about $7,000 more than the 2026 model, but that has more to do with extra standard content than tariffs, Wysocki said.
The model comes with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged hybrid engine with all-wheel drive and 305 maximum horsepower. Also standard is BlueCruise 1.5 hands-free highway driving technology, including automatic lane change, and four-years of connectivity included. There also are exterior and interior changes, five new paint colors and two trims: Premiere and Reserve.
Executives have conveyed the importance of the Corsair’s segment. It was Lincoln’s second best-selling product last year and makes up most of the almost 13% decline in Lincoln’s U.S. sales through July.
Ford hasn’t said where it plans to add Lincoln production in the United States or of what models, only that it’s expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. The brand also is expected to introduce a Bronco platform-based model.
