COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — In 2024, nearly 12,000 people were killed in alcohol related driving accidents in the United States. That’s why, in light of Labor Day weekend, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is urging the Wiregrass to take the steps to practice sober driving over the holiday.

Officials say although residents might celebrate the three-day weekend with drinks, that doesn’t mean anyone has to get behind the wheel impaired. Some measures to prevent drunk driving include designating a sober driver, calling a cab or using a rideshare service.
Officials at CCSO say that whether traveling to a local spot or hundreds of miles away, they want to ensure residents arrive home safe.
CCSO said they are proud to sponsor the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
