A biographical crime drama starring Chris Evans is set to exit Netflix next month. Based on a true story, it centers on a hitman who leads a dual life as a family man and a contract killer.
The Iceman leaves Netflix in June
The Iceman will leave Netflix on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
It is loosely based on Anthony Bruno’s 1993 book, The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Ariel Vromen co-produced and directed the film. He also wrote the screenplay with Morgan Land.
Set in the 1970s, The Iceman centers on Richard Kuklinski, a seemingly ordinary family man who secretly works as a contract hitman. To support his family, he initially works as a dubbing artist for adult films while pretending to voice cartoon characters.
After he loses that job, Richard begins working for a dangerous gangster named Roy DeMeo. However, things go south pretty quickly when he leaves a young woman as a witness during one of his jobs. This puts both his professional and personal life at risk.
The film’s cast features Chris Evans as “Mr. Freeazy,” Michael Shannon as Richard, Winona Ryder as Deborah, Ray Liotta as Roy DeMeo, James Franco as Marty, and David Schwimmer as Josh, among others.
Millennium Entertainment distributed the film globally, premiering it at the 2012 Venice International Film Festival. It later debuted in theaters in the United States on May 3, 2013. Critically, the film received a fairly positive reception from both audience and critics, with many praising Shannon’s impeccable performance.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a Tomatometer score 67% and a Popcornmeter of 62%. It has a similar score on IMDb, with 6.8 from 84K user votes. Despite this, The Iceman was a box office failure, earning just around $4.5 million worldwide.
Netflix subscribers have a limited time to stream The Iceman on the platform before it exits next month.
