China has introduced a new visa for young science and technology experts to support its goals of innovation and self-sufficiency.
Starting October 1, young science and technology professionals can apply for “young talent” K visas under new foreign entry rules. The visa is for young foreign professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Officials did not define the category, but another initiative, the Talented Young Scientist Programme has an upper age limit of 45. The Outstanding Young Scientists (Overseas) Fund Project sets the upper age range at 40.
To qualify, students must have graduated from well-known universities or research institutions, either in their home country or abroad. Those involved in education or research at these institutions can also apply.
Compared with other ordinary visas, the K-type allows more entries, a longer validity and a longer stay.
