Marvel fans now have a more clear idea of when VisionQuest takes place in the MCU. A showrunner with the studio has given a surprising timeline update, which spans between WandaVision and Spider-Man 4.
Speaking with Polygon, showrunner Terry Matalas revealed that the Disney+ series will not immediately follow the events of WandaVision. Instead, the story jumps several years forward and places White Vision much closer to the MCU’s current timeline.
“Years have passed since WandaVision. I would say we’re about current with Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” Matalas explained. That puts VisionQuest roughly four years after the events of WandaVision, which also allows the story to move beyond Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Agatha All Along.
The time jump also gives White Vision more room to deal with his identity and what happened in Westview.
What is the new Disney+ VisionQuest TV show about?
The eight-episode series will be the final part of the loose trilogy that began with WandaVision. Paul Bettany, who returns as White Vision, sets out to understand what he is and whether he can still consider himself the same person who once lived as Wanda Maximoff’s partner.
Although Vision’s memories were restored during his confrontation in Westview, the experience did not restore his emotions. The series follows his attempt to understand that disconnect while exploring his synthetic nature.
Vision will also interact with artificial intelligence personas who have taken on human form. James Spader returns as Ultron, while Orla Brady reprises her role as F.R.I.D.A.Y. The story will also explore how F.R.I.D.A.Y. views the death of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame.
During his journey, Vision crosses paths with Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica), a mysterious teenager who becomes his companion as they go on the run. They are pursued by Paladin (Todd Stashwick), a bounty hunter determined to track Vision down.
The time jump gives VisionQuest a chance to explore a very different version of White Vision than the one last seen in Westview.
VisionQuest premieres October 14, 2026, exclusively on Disney+.
