Hong Kong police have arrested a man over a bank robbery in Wan Chai, with preliminary investigations showing that HK$36,000 (US$4,595) was stolen.
Police received a report at 12.26pm after a man robbed a branch of Bank of East Asia in Harbour View Centre before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
Officers arrested the suspect at Wan Tsui Shopping Centre in Chai Wan 90 minutes later.
A source said the suspect, wearing a black hat, black T-shirt and mask, brandished a hammer and a suspected firearm during the robbery and smashed the glass at the bank counter.
The source added that surveillance cameras showed that the suspect went to Admiralty MTR station after fleeing the scene. He was later found and arrested in Chai Wan.
Preliminary investigations showed HK$36,000 was stolen but police said they were still calculating the losses.
