Why Traders Are Watching for a Reversal Now

Day traders waking up this morning and looking over the USD/MXN and the broad Forex market may have been convinced the past handful of days that USD centric weakness is becoming a fixture. However, before speculators decide to simply pursue selling positions a suspicious consideration of the assumed trajectory should be given substance. The USD/MXN is trading within lower depths certainly and traders need to think about what financial institutions believe fair market value will be near-term after the currency pair has exhibited sideways price action early today.

USD Weakness Reflects a Broader Shift in Sentiment

The past handful of days in the USD/MXN has consisted of persistent selling. No, there hasn’t been a one-way avenue established for speculators to bet with blind confidence. Intraday reversals continue to be demonstrated and occasional support has shown force and caused some choppiness. Yet, having broken through perceived psychological lower values, the USD/MXN can be used as a prime example of broad Forex market sentiment the past week.

USD centric strength has largely vanished over the past week and it is clear financial institutions are recalibrating their mid-term outlooks. While analysts argue over the reasons why the slide in value for the USD has occurred, now is the time to consider if there will be additional impetus for selling the USD/MXN short and near-term.

Mid-Term Support Levels Face Renewed Selling Pressure

The USD/MXN is trading near the 17.13850 ratio as of this writing with a wide early Monday morning spread being demonstrated. However, there is no denying the USD/MXN has proven the 17.30000 and 17.20000 support levels vulnerable since Tuesday and Thursday of last week with sustained selling pressure. The USD/MXN did go below the 17.10000 mark on Friday and saw a slight reversal higher as the weekend approached.

The de-escalation of military conflict in the Middle East which has seemingly continued into today, more risk appetite being seen on U.S equity indices – which has helped decrease U.S Treasury yield attractiveness momentarily, and debate about the U.S Fed’s intentions have created downside momentum in the broad Forex market for the USD. Things can certainly change quickly and narratives can suddenly be re-interpreted, but for the moment the USD/MXN has been able to move lower and is now legitimately challenging values not seen since the middle of February.

Why Traders Should Stay Cautious About Chasing Lower Targets

Traders tempted to jump in and pursue the trajectory downwards should look at technical values being highlighted. The ability to go below the 17.10000 mark momentarily on Friday is interesting because it may be a signal that financial institutions believe lower depths could be explored. However, the last time the USD/MXN was able to traverse beneath its current ratios in a sustained manner was in June of 2024. Meaning the USD/MXN has not seen absolute values lower in two year and two months.

The USD/MXN may see nervous conditions short and near-term as financial institutions decide whether they want to transact commercial contracts at lower values. The push lower certainly must be respected by traders because of the steady trend which has shown solid momentum, but speculators should not get too ambitious. Values below 17.10000 and targets of 17.05000 to 17.00000 may be considered, but may be too adventurous for retail traders.

Momentum Remains Strong, But Reversal Risk Lingers

Sudden changes in direction are always part of Forex trading. The abundant downwards recent drive in the USD/MXN should be treated with respect and also create a sense of danger in traders’ mindsets regarding potential reversals higher. Because financial institutions certainly know the USD/MXN is now within depths not challenged in a sustained manner for over two years. Meaning technically some of the programmed trading may create signals that show the market has been oversold due to support ratios. However, the question is if momentum lower can be sustained and if depths seen before (in June of 2024) will once again become a reality.

Long-Term Trend Continues Despite Intraday Volatility

Current price action in the USD/MXN has delivered a significant trend which has been demonstrated powerfully the over the long-term. The momentum lower has been significant as support has proven vulnerable. But the USD/MXN at its current ratios should be considered carefully. The temptation to continue to pursue selling of the USD/MXN is strong, but the possible dangerous intraday reversals higher should serve as a caution sign for speculators.
