Two of the English Premier League’s powerhouses square off in the matchup of the weekend on Sunday, as Manchester City gets set to host Liverpool.
This is a matchup between two title hopefuls, along with it simply being a battle between the EPL’s last two champions. Manchester City had won four straight league titles prior to last season, including championships in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Liverpool won it all in 2020 before posing a dominant run to the top last season.
It looked like the Reds were going to run away with another championship this season, given that the club won its first four matches of the 2025-26 campaign. However, a humbling experience where they lost four matches in a row dampened expectations. Liverpool ended its skid last weekend with a solid win over Aston Villa at Anfield.
Manchester City might have stumbled down the charts last year, but they still have plenty of talent to make a deep run this season. Coming off a solid 3-1 win over Bournemouth last week, as well as a 4-1 beating at the expense of Borussia Dortmund in UEFA Champions League play this past Wednesday, City has loads of momentum heading into this marquee matchup.
