Maximilian Hahn has resigned from his role as West Ham United head of recruitment.

Hahn, who initially joined as head of technical scouting in February 2024, handed in his notice last week. The 30-year-old played a key role in scouting Mateus Fernandes, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Axel Disasi, Soungoutou Magassa and Crysencio Summerville. Hahn’s pending departure is a big loss to the department which consists of sporting director Mark Noble; European first team scout Georges Santos; Italian scout Antonio Tramontano and others.

Hahn joined after being recommended for the role by ex-technical director Tim Steidten, who left in February 2025. Hahn’s influence behind the scenes grew after Kyle Macaulay’s departure as head of recruitment in October. The Athletic previously reported that West Ham are keen to appoint a director of football. Sources with knowledge of the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, say head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will have a big say on the appointment.

Last week the club announced Nuno will remain at the helm following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League. Next season the east London side will play in the Championship for the first time since 2011.
