A trilateral meeting between US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping could take place in November, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, as Moscow also signals that talks on ending the war in Ukraine could soon resume.
Peskov’s remarks were cited by the Russian state-run news agency TASS on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

“The possibility of holding a trilateral summit… exists at the APEC meeting in Shenzhen,” Peskov said.
He also confirmed that the issue was discussed during a phone call between Putin and Trump on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
“During their phone call, Putin and Trump discussed the possibility of organizing a Russia-China-US trilateral summit on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Shenzhen,” Peskov added.
Therefore, the leaders could meet as early as Nov. 18-19, 2026, when China is scheduled to host the APEC summit in Shenzhen.
Moscow signals possible return to Ukraine talks
Peskov also made a new statement on Ukraine, saying that Moscow expects trilateral negotiations to resume in the “foreseeable future.”
“We would not want to – and will not – discuss any specific points publicly, especially since there are currently no, shall we say, formalized, integrated programs or roadmaps,” Peskov said.
“There is a shared initiative and a shared political will – which has been confirmed – to resume trilateral negotiations,” he added.
According to Peskov, dialogue with the Trump administration on the issue is ongoing.

The Kremlin described the call with US President Donald Trump as “extremely frank,” even as Moscow resumed strikes on Kyiv hours before a brief truce expired.
Russia and Ukraine have not held trilateral talks since February, while recent US diplomatic efforts have focused on restarting the stalled process.
The last full-pledged trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US took place on Feb. 17-18, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland. The parties had previously met on Feb. 4-5 in Abu Dhabi.
Peskov also said Russia is continuing work on prisoner exchanges with Ukraine.
“The issue of prisoner exchanges is constantly on the agenda of contacts with the US, including at the highest level,” he said.
Notably, on Tuesday, Peskov said that Russia expects trilateral talks with Ukraine and the US to resume, even as Kremlin forces launched a massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv that killed five people and injured at least 35.
Nevertheless, he said Russia welcomes efforts toward a peaceful settlement, including those by the US and India.
Peskov on Russia’s economy and Nord Stream
Peskov said there was no discussion of raising taxes in Russia because of the budget deficit, while noting that spending figures could change.
“The Russian Federation’s budget deficit should not cause concern, as economic stability is assured,” he said.
Peskov also claimed that Russian gas could be a cheaper alternative for Europe if “Europeans were guided by common sense.”
“Political bias is preventing Europe from utilizing a full string of Nord Stream,” Peskov argued.
