PETSAVERS Malaysia has introduced a new insurance plan to help Malaysian pet owners manage unexpected situations when travelling without their pets.
Developed in collaboration with Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad, the new Petsavers Insurance plan covers veterinary visitation fees and additional boarding costs if travel disruptions delay an owner’s return home.
The company said the initiative addresses growing concerns among pet owners, who often experience anxiety about leaving their pets behind on work trips or holidays.
Petsavers founder and chief executive officer Amanda Chong said the insurance product was created to address both emotional and practical concerns faced by pet owners.
“Many pet owners tell us that even while on holiday, they worry about what is happening back home with their pets,” she stated.
“Petsavers Insurance gives pet owners greater confidence to travel, knowing their pets have an added layer of protection.”
She added that the partnership with Allianz General would provide customers with greater assurance through established underwriting expertise and claims support.

Meanwhile, Allianz General chief retail officer Linda Lor said the product reflects the insurer’s focus on developing solutions tailored to evolving consumer needs.
“Petsavers Insurance not only provides coverage for unexpected veterinary expenses, but also includes accidental coverage for pet owners, offering a dual layer of protection,” she remarked.
The annual policy, priced at RM32, provides coverage for veterinary visitation fees of up to RM100 per claim if a cat or dog falls ill while staying at a registered pet boarding facility during the owner’s absence.
It also offers up to RM500 per claim for extended boarding or pet hotel stays caused by travel delays or the hospitalisation of the owner.
In addition, the policy includes personal accident coverage of up to RM25,000 per policy for accidental death, permanent disability and daily hospital income.
Petsavers said the policy does not require pets to be microchipped for eligibility, although coverage applies specifically to cats and dogs boarded at licensed pet boarding facilities.
The company said rising pet ownership and increasing spending on pet care in Malaysia highlighted the need for more specialised protection products for pet owners.
