Toy Story 6 release date rumors explained
Toy Story 6 has not been officially greenlighted yet. However, director Andrew Stanton is hopeful for a potential sequel.
Pixar’s beloved Toy Story series has recently released its surprise fifth instalment on June 19. The previous movie in the franchise came out in 2019. At the time, Tom Hanks said that although Toy Story 4 was initially thought to be the series finale, creators did not rule out a possible sequel. Four years later, it was announced that development of Toy Story 5 had begun with Hanks returning as Woody.
Now, following the release of Toy Story 5, director and co-creator of the movies, Andrew Stanton, has weighed in on the possibility of future movies. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, he remained hopeful about a sixth installment, saying, “You can never say never.”
Toy Story 6 news and updates
Toy Story 5 begins with little Bonnie, the new owner of Andy’s toys, receiving a Lilypad as a gift. The new addictive plaything steals her attention from Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the toys.
In his interview with ScreenRant, Andrew said that a potential sixth film would focus on “the Bonnie years,” before moving on “to other kids.” He stated, “We’d always end it like it could end here, but we’ve passed the badge on from Woody to Jessie at the end of 4, just in case it keeps going. So it’s always been that kind of mindset.”
Toy Story 5 returns with Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. The stellar voice cast also includes Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, Shelby Rabara, and more.
The synopsis for the newly released Toy Story 5 is as follows:
“When Bonnie receives a Lilypad tablet as a gift and becomes obsessed, Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs become exponentially harder when they have to go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.”
