The Movie Poster Sets Trailer Release Date for John Cena & Mattel Blockbuster

The first poster for Matchbox: The Movie has been unveiled by Apple TV. The artwork also confirms that fans won’t have to wait long for their first look at the film, with the trailer arriving tomorrow.

Apple Original Films, Skydance, and Mattel Studios have shared the first poster for Matchbox: The Movie, giving fans their first official look at the film. The poster also confirms that the trailer will be released on Saturday. It will debut during Apple TV+’s Comic-Con Hall H panel at 2 p.m. PT.

Seven actors will attend the panel to promote the film. Their names include John Cena, Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, and Teyonah Parris. The Comic-Con panel is expected to give audiences their first substantial look at the Mattel production ahead of its streaming debut.

Matchbox: The Movie was formally revealed in September 2024. Directed by Sam Hargrave, who is famous for the Extraction films, the production brings to life the globally renowned Mattel toy car franchise in an international action comedy ride.

The movie tells the story of a group of childhood friends whose lives are turned upside down when their former leader, Sean, returns home. Sean, now an undercover CIA agent played by John Cena, pulls the group into a life-threatening international mission with global consequences. Traveling across multiple countries, the friends must rely on their longtime bond.

Apart from Cena and Jessica Biel, the cast includes Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira, and Golshifteh Farahani. The script for the movie is written by David Coggeshall. The film is produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Robbie Brenner, Jules Daly, and Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz.

Production on Matchbox: The Movie began in January 2025 and took place across multiple locations. It was shot in Budapest, Casablanca, Slovakia, and Los Angeles to accommodate large-scale car chases, highway sequences, and international action inspired by the iconic toy line.

The movie will be released exclusively on Apple TV+ on October 9.
