Profile: Finca Los Pinos Touts Carbon-Neutral Coffee in Mexico

A Mexico News Daily profile describes Julia Ortega’s Finca Los Pinos in Puebla’s Sierra Norte as Mexico’s first carbon-neutral coffee farm. For six years, the farm has been producing and exporting 60-70% of its specialty-grade, rust-resistant organic coffee while repurposing all organic matter throughout the farm. Domestically, the farm sells coffees to high-end restaurants and roasters, according to the report. 

Replacing Opium Poppies with Climate-Smart Coffee in Lao PDR

A recent United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) field workshop called “From Theory to Practice” in Xamneua District highlighted how the Vanmai Coffee Cooperative, founded in 2020, is helping farmers in Houaphanh Province transition from opium poppies to coffee through a “seed to cup” value chain initiative. The project involves education on climate-smart practices for sustainable cultivation. 

SCA Opens 2026 Sustainability Awards Nominations

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is accepting nominations for its 2026 Sustainability Awards — for-profit and nonprofit categories — through Jan. 31, 2026.

Hinba Expands From Oban to Seven Venues Across Scotland

Scottish cafe operator Hinba has grown since launching in Oban in 2019 into a seven-venue group spanning cafes, a bakery and restaurants across Glasgow and western Scotland, according to a report by the Glasgow Times.

Bacha Coffee Debuts in Japan With Ginza Flagship

Moroccan coffee brand Bacha Coffee opened its first Japan location in Tokyo’s Ginza district. The three-story flagship is part of an expansion plan tied to a franchise partnership with railway group Tokyu.

Lavazza Opens Training Facility in Dallas

Italian coffee giant Lavazza has opened a training facility in Dallas. The company says it will offer hands-on workshops, SCA-certified pathways and programming tailored to local and global trends, according to a Dallas Innovates report.

Bunny Cafe Opening in San Francisco

A pet adoption space focused on rabbits and grab-and-go vegetarian options called Bunny Cafe San Francisco is planning on opening with a popup from reimagined San Francisco coffee institution Graffeo Coffee.

WCC Publishes 2026 Rules for WCIGS and WCRC

World Coffee Championships published the 2026 rules and regulations for the World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship and the World Coffee Roasting Championship. The events are slated for June 25-27, 2026, during World of Coffee Brussels.

Equator Coffee Unexpectedly Closes Culver City Shop

Equator Coffee abruptly closed its Culver City location at Ivy Station on Friday, Dec. 12, according to a West Side Today report. The company emailed customers the day before but did not provide a reason, leaving Equator with a remaining Southern California shop in Laguna Beach.

Coffee Prices on the Rise in Toast’s November 2025 Report

The median regular price for hot coffee was $3.59 in November, up 3.5% compared to November 2024, according to private company Toast’s monthly coffee price report. The report uses aggregated sales data from restaurants on the Toast platform, representing approximately 156,000 locations.
