The 2026 San Diego Comic-Con is turning out to be extremely fruitful for Star Trek fans, with the sci-fi franchise giving out not one but three major updates about its future. The reveals included information about a new cast member who will be joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy in the upcoming Season 2, along with two other reveals.
Three major Star Trek updates take over Hall H at 2026 Comic-Con
In an update from the Star Trek Universe Hall H panel at 2026 Comic-Con, Paramount+ and CBS Studios have confirmed significant details about the future of the Starfleet Academy series, the spin-off Strange New Worlds, and the Scouts show.
Panelist and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy star Karim Diané exclusively revealed during the convention that Ruaridh Aldington of Drained fame will join the series as a new cadet in its second season. Aldington will take on the mantle of Keats, a young alien with a mysterious backstory who has a chance encounter with the cadets during an away mission. The recruits decide to take him back to the base, only to realize that Keats is actually a wanted man whose life is on the line. While Season 2 does not have an official release date as of yet, fans can expect the installment to come out on Paramount+ sometime in 2027.
In other Star Trek news, Strange New Worlds co-showrunner and executive producer Akiva Goldsman unveiled a sneak peek teaser for Season 4. The exclusive Hall H snippet provided fans with a glimpse of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew’s fate.
Finally, the Star Trek panel also shared details on the release date of Season 2 of Star Trek: Scouts. The original animated YouTube-first series, which revolves around three eight-year-old friends’ pursuit to become future Starfleet Explorers, is all set to premiere its follow-up edition on Star Trek Day, which will arrive on September 8. In the meantime, fans can catch its first season on Nickelodeon’s Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel.
