Knocked Up resurfaces on streaming, finds success on Netflix
Knocked Up, starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, is now the #6 movie on Netflix worldwide as of April 27. As per streaming tracker FlixPatrol, it sits below five titles: Charlize Theron’s Apex (#1), 180 (#2), Thrash (#3), the Adam Sandler-produced Roommates (#4), and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (#5).
However, it surpasses the viewership of Love At Last (#7), the Sophie Turner-led Trust (#8), Supernova Strikers: Genesis (#9), and Shooter (#10).
The film first launched at South by Southwest on March 12, 2007. It then reached a wider audience in the United States three months later, on June 1. Following its release, it grossed an estimated $219.9 million globally against a budget of approximately $30 million.
It holds a “certified fresh” 90% approval rating and an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Metacritic has given it a Metascore of 85 and a user score of 7.1. The former denotes “universal acclaim,” while the latter represents “generally favorable” views.
Knocked Up’s story revolves around Ben Stone and Allison Scott. The former is a slacker living off injury compensation funds, while occasionally working on an adult website with his friends. Meanwhile, the latter is an ambitious and hardworking reporter for E! who gets a promotion to an on-air role. Their lives dramatically change one day after a night of heavy drinking, and a careless one-night stand results in Scott becoming pregnant with Stone’s child. Consequently, they begin dealing with various challenges, developing a bond in the process.
Judd Apatow directed the movie from his screenplay. He also co-produced with Shauna Robertson and Clayton Townsend. Besides Rogen and Heigl, the movie stars Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, and Martin Starr.
The film spawned a spin-off, This is 40, starring Mann and Rudd’s characters. Released in 2012, it shows them tackling various stressful challenges in their marriage as they turn 40.
