Sapporo is bringing its 150-year brewing story to life at Hysan Place in Causeway Bay with Hong Kong’s first manga-inspired Japanese tachinomi experience. Open to the public from the evening of 25 September to 8 October 2026, the pop-up invites Hong Kong consumers to celebrate Sapporo’s anniversary through fresh draught pours, Japanese standing-bar culture and limited-edition collectibles.

Rooted in a brewing heritage established in Hokkaido in 1876, the experience reinterprets the story of founder Seibei Nakagawa, whose journey brought brewing knowledge from the West to Japan. Through original manga storytelling, Sapporo brings its pioneering spirit and Japanese brewing identity into a contemporary cultural setting designed for Hong Kong audiences.

Created by BBDO Hong Kong, the activation translates Sapporo’s 150-year brewing heritage into a manga-inspired environment designed to bring the brand’s story to life for Hong Kong consumers.

At the heart of the pop-up is a circular timber pavilion inspired by a Japanese tachinomi standing bar, with warm paper lanterns and overhead manga panels creating an immersive environment. Visitors can follow The Story of Seibei Nakagawa through illustrated panels and a QR code on collectible manga paper cups while enjoying a fresh draught pour in the convivial atmosphere of the bar.

Steven Wong, Marketing Director, Hong Kong & Taiwan at Carlsberg Brewery, said: “Reaching 150 years is a rare milestone, but we didn’t want to celebrate Sapporo’s heritage by looking backward or simply telling our history. We wanted people to live it. Sapporo was born from a relentless pioneering spirit in 1876 when Nakagawa Seibei brought authentic brewing craft to Japan, and that same dedication lives in every pour today. By transforming Causeway Bay into Hong Kong’s first manga-style Japanese bar, we’ve taken the story directly off our limited-edition anniversary cans and turned it into an immersive urban playground. It’s our way of proving that a 150-year-old brand can remain modern, culturally vital, and creatively daring.”

To extend the heritage story beyond the bar, Sapporo has developed a limited-edition collection of 150th-anniversary lifestyle collectibles, including graphic apparel, a Sapporo Katana Opener, a washed denim tote bag and other merchandise inspired by the brand and the manga narrative. The collection connects Sapporo’s brewing heritage with contemporary streetwear and collectible culture.

The experience is supported by KOL engagement, on-site activations and social content spanning culture, lifestyle, fashion and food and beverage communities. Visitors aged 18 and above can follow Sapporo’s official social channels and present their device to on-site promoters to redeem a fresh draught beer during the pop-up, subject to event terms and availability.

The campaign launched on 25 September 2026 and will run for the next month.
