Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Movie Gets ‘Punk’ & ‘Excellent’ Details From Actor

Ryan Gosling’s next trip into the galaxy far, far away is starting to sound very different from recent Star Wars projects. Fresh comments from a costar tease a movie with a rougher edge, a playful energy on set, and an ending he says left him fully satisfied. The film is still largely under wraps, but new details are giving fans a clearer idea of its tone.

Daniel Ings talks about Star Wars: Starfighter

During an interview with ScreenRant while promoting HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, actor Daniel Ings opened up about working on Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie stars Ryan Gosling and is directed by Shawn Levy, with the plot taking place around five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Ings described the experience as surprisingly relaxed despite the pressure that comes with joining a massive franchise. He praised Levy for creating a creative environment where actors could experiment during scenes. He also revealed that most of his scenes were shared with Gosling, calling the actor “so playful” while searching for interesting moments during filming.

The actor also addressed reports that the movie’s ending went through creative changes. Instead of sounding worried, Ings said he loved how the film wrapped up. “I felt tremendous about it. I f—— loved it,” he said. He added that the movie still feels “Star Wars through and through,” even with what he called a “punk feel.” “I loved it, so I felt excellent about it,“ Ings continued.

That description may explain why anticipation around the project keeps growing. Unlike The Mandalorian and Grogu, which continue stories fans already know, Starfighter focuses on completely new characters in an unexplored part of the timeline. Alongside Gosling and Ings, the cast includes Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre.

The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
