Reporting From Alaska- Don’t let Elon Musk buy Alaska—Vote No. on 2

Elon Musk has chipped in $1.5 million, his version of loose change, to the group trying to repeal ranked choice voting in Alaska.

With this move, the Republican campaign against ranked choice voting becomes an effort by Musk to buy a voting system in Alaska that meets with his approval.

Musk’s purchase plan should be the No. 1 issue that defenders of ranked choice voting start highlighting every day from now until November.

Under the Musk plan, Alaskans would no longer know what billionaires are doing in our elections.

That’s because Proposition No. 2 would repeal the campaign finance law that now forces donations from people like Musk to be made public.

As lawyer Scott Kendall put it, the only reason we know that Musk dumped $1.5 million into the race is the law that he is now trying to repeal. The actions by billionaires to shape the future of Alaska would be kept secret under the Musk plan.

Alaskans deserve to know exactly who is trying to buy votes.

Clueless Judy Eledge, the Republican attacking ranked choice voting, said she could not express “the gratitude that we feel that these titans of industry would show interest in our small state.”

Such groveling in front of the world’s richest man should be a call to action.

Don’t let Musk buy Alaska—Vote No on 2.
