A new update has revealed that Sam Trammell, Deadwood’s Robin Weigert, and more have joined the cast of the Prison Break reboot. The reboot of the hit 2005 series was greenlit by the streaming platform Hulu in 2025. The original Prison Break series had a total of five seasons and was a commercial and critical success for Fox.
Prison Break reboot cast adds Sam Trammell and five more stars
According to a report by Deadline, the Prison Break reboot has added True Blood’s Sam Trammell, Chris Coy, Jean Louisa Kelly, Sean Bridgers, Kerry Bishé, and Robin Weigert to its cast. They will join the previously announced cast, including Lukas Gage, Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, JR Bourne, Clayton Cardenas, and more.
Announced in 2025, the reboot is helmed by Elgin James, who takes on the role of showrunner and executive producer. James will also write the series. Although the show is set in the same world as the original series, it has a new plot and characters. Based on its logline, the show will focus on an ex-soldier played by Browning, who transitions into a corrections officer. She later joins “one of the deadliest prisons” in the country for the sake of someone she loves.
The creator of the original Prison Break series, Paul Scheuring, has joined the reboot as executive producer.
Moreover, while there is no news of any original actors returning, Gage spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in June and said, “We might see a couple of OGs coming back.” He also shed light on what fans can expect from the reboot. He added, “We’re paying respect to the amazing TV show that I grew up loving, but it’s also on Hulu now; it’s not on Fox, so we can get really gritty and get really dark. It’s gonna be crazy; it’s gonna be a wild ride.”
