Unfortunately, that’s exactly what federal safety officials are warning consumers about after more than 17,000 coffeemakers were recalled because of a burn hazard. The recall affects Kidisle-branded hot and iced coffee machines, which have been linked to more than 100 reports of hot liquid or steam being released unexpectedly during use.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled coffeemakers can become clogged, causing hot liquid or steam to build up inside the machine before being released without warning. Officials say the defect poses a risk of serious burn injuries.
The numbers are fairly alarming. The CPSC says it is aware of at least 107 reports involving the coffeemakers unexpectedly releasing hot liquid or steam. Those incidents resulted in at least 27 reported injuries, including first- and second-degree burns that required medical treatment.
The recall involves Kidisle hot and iced coffee machines, model KC101B. The single-serve machines are sold in black, white, and gray, measure about 11 inches tall and 6 inches wide, and feature a 50-ounce detachable water tank. They were sold online through Amazon, Walmart, and eBay between June 2024 and April 2026 for about $49.
If you own one of the affected machines, the CPSC says you should stop using it immediately. Consumers can contact Kidisle for a full refund, though there is a catch. Before receiving the refund, customers will need to destroy the coffeemaker by unplugging it, cutting the power cord, writing “Recalled” on the machine, and sending photographic proof to the company.
To determine whether your machine is affected, check the underside of the coffeemaker for model number KC101B. The brand name should also appear on your purchase receipt.
As someone who relies on coffee to become a functioning member of society each morning, I can confidently say there are better ways to wake up than an unexpected blast of steam.
