It seems time could be up for OnePlus. While the company hasn’t made an official announcement, Android Headlines, which claims to be very familiar with the inner workings at the company, is reporting that Oppo is closing up shop with the mobile device manufacturer. However, unlike most rumors, this one seems to contain ample proof that, while the move hasn’t been announced yet, OnePlus is indeed being canned by its parent company.
Following publication, Android Headline’s added a disclaimer to its article regarding OnePlus’ closure stating that AI assistance was used to write the story, but emphasizing that “human work” went into the investigative aspects of the piece.

While we have no official press release on the matter, Android Headlines has made the claim that OnePlus is being taken apart as we speak. Android Headlines claims this has been reported from employees across three continents: North America, the EU, and Asia (specifically China and India). Android Headlines also cites “four independent analyst firms whose market data verifies what OnePlus won’t say,” alongside its own years-long experience with following OnePlus.
With all that in mind, here’s what Android Headlines is claiming:
The evidence is damning. Shipments in freefall. A premium stronghold that collapsed almost overnight. Headquarters shuttered without announcement. Partnerships ended. Western teams gutted to skeleton crews. Product cancellations—the Open 2 foldable and 15s compact flagship have both been scrapped; neither will launch as planned. And every major decision now flows from China—regional offices don’t strategize anymore, they take orders.
We’ve already seen Open 2 and OnePlus 15s allegedly face cancellation for ourselves, and now Android Headlines says that this is the same play-by-play that occurred when Oppo gutted Realme two weeks ago. It appears the company is cleaning house as it shuts down companies that aren’t performing well and moves on.
So, how poorly was OnePlus doing? Well, the article claims that “OnePlus shipments dropped more than 20% in 2024 — from roughly 17 million units to somewhere between 13 and 14 million.” At the same time, its owner, Oppo, saw a 2.8% increase, showing that OnePlus was putting a big damper on its parent company’s progress.
Not only that, but India and China count for 74% of OnePlus’ shipments. Both of these markets have collapsed: six states in India stopped selling the devices because the razor-thin margins meant they didn’t make money off the sales, and OnePlus’ share in China, tasked with surpassing 3% in 2024, instead dropped from 2% to 1.6%.
Android Headlines is quick to state that people who own OnePlus phones should still receive their security updates and warranties as Oppo promised. However, it seems that we won’t get any more OnePlus phones, and once the current models fall out of support, that’s pretty much it for the brand.
