NYCFC is interested in a potential move for Christian Pulisic, but his club AC Milan has made it clear the U.S. national team star is not for sale, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.
NYCFC is not the only MLS team that would chase Pulisic if Milan softened their stance, sources add. Gazzetta Dello Sport first reported NYCFC’s interest.
Pulisic is under contract through next summer but Milan holds the option to extend another 12 months, effectively meaning he is under team control through the summer of 2028.
As The Athletic reported earlier on Wednesday, Pulisic’s contract situation means he could be targeted by other teams this summer. For now, sources have said the forward is focused solely on the USMNT and the World Cup.
Milan is undergoing an organizational transition at the moment. It just replaced Massimiliano Allegri with Ruben Amorim as head coach, after the Italian failed to qualify Milan for the Champions League. Sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada also left the club at the end of the domestic season.
Pulisic, 27, has 33 goals in 87 caps for the USMNT and he is on track to return from injury against Turkey on Thursday. He has been one of Milan’s best players since arriving from Chelsea in 2023.
NYCFC is moving into a brand new stadium in Queens, New York City that is planned to open in the summer of 2027. The club has been one of the most consistently successful in MLS over the last decade. In the late 2010s, the team fielded David Villa, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo, though has shifted away from that model of European stars since.
Pulisic would be one of the league’s marquee stars if he was to arrive stateside anytime soon.
In 2025-26, Pulisic was one of Serie A’s best players over the first few months, but he, like others at Milan, finished the season on a downturn of form, failing to score after December.
The American winger still finished with eight goals and six assists in 1,611 Serie A minutes last year. He will no doubt want to better all three figures next season.
