Legenderie, the Millcreek coffee shop that closed a year ago, is planning a comeback in a new location.
In a joint statement, Erie’s Black Wall Street announced on June 24 that The Coffee Bar by Legenderie, will open on Parade Street by late this summer or sometime this fall.
Earlier this week, Erie’s Black Wall Street completed the purchase of 1313 Parade St., which had previously been the home of Latino’s restaurant, which closed in 2019.

Kyra Taylor, executive director of Erie’s Black Wall Street, said she and two of the organization’s other leaders toured the vacant brick building in December.
She still remembers her reaction.
“I said Legenderie needs to be in here,” she said.
She said Erie’s Black Wall Street has been working since then with Ishmael and Allana Trainor, who previously owned Legenderie Records and Coffee House at 5761 Peach St.
The couple, who bought and sold vinyl records in their old location, hosted Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris during a trip to Erie in October of 2024.
New location will set coffee shop up for success
For much of the past year, they’ve been looking for a new place to do business.
Ishmael Trainor said this location will be a little different than the old one.
“We are going to have records, but it’s not going to be the main focal point,” he said.
Taylor thinks the Parade Street location is a good fit — one that will create jobs, and generate activity and investment.
“We are looking to make this a partnership that is beneficial for both of us,” she said. “They will be our tenant, and we will make sure we are setting them up to have a more affordable rent or lease option.”
In a statement, she said, “The project reflects the organization’s broader mission of creating pathways to ownership, supporting entrepreneurs, activating underutilized spaces, and building stronger neighborhoods through intentional investment.”
This project builds on the redevelopment work being done by her organization and East Side Renaissance, which is focused on investing in people and real estate on Parade Street north of 12th Street.
“I think that is why we should view redevelopment as a community-led effort,” Taylor said. “Nobody can do all the work. We are grateful for ESR to start the ball rolling. We are happy to jump in and assist.”
