A hugely popular coffee shop in the middle of Newcastle has made a new list of the best in the UK for 2026

A list of the best coffee shops in the UK for 2026 has just been released. And there’s reason for Newcastle to feel proud, as one of them is right in the heart of the town.
As everybody who loves a coffee will tell you, there is nothing better tho start the day than a satisfying and often much needed hit of caffeine. And whether you’re more of a traditionalist when it comes to coffee or prefer one of the iced variety, there are thankfully plenty of places you can get a good one in Newcastle city centre. And one of the best and a place you’re always likely to see a queue is Pink Lane Coffee.
As its name gives away, the hugely popular spot is located on a street that, in itself, is arguably Newcastle’s greatest hidden gem, has carved out a reputation for top notch coffee that has had loads of people raving about it. It might be small in size but the love for Pink Lane Coffee has always been big and it’s now deservedly landed on a list of the best places to get a coffee in the country, with all of the shops listed now in contention to be named among the best in Europe.
The new guide has been compiled by the aptly named The Best Coffee Shops who, sharing the list earlier this week, wrote: ‘Massive congrats to all the coffee shops that made it into THE BEST COFFEE SHOPS UK 2026 List. These coffee shops are now running for a spot in THE EUROPE’S 100 BEST COFFEE SHOPS in World of Coffee Brussels 2026!
‘Our mission is to celebrate EXCELLENCE in the UK’s Speciality Coffee Scene by spotlighting outstanding coffee shops and sharing their dedication, quality and craft based on the evaluation criteria: Quality of Coffee, Barista expertise, Customer Service, Consistency, Innovation, Quality of Food & Pastry, Ambiance & Atmosphere and Sustainable practices.’
Pink Lane Coffee is the only representative from the North East on the new list and were understandably over the moon at the recognition, taking to Instagram to celebrate as they wrote: ‘We’re absolutely stoked to be nominated in @thebestcoffeeshops.uk! We wouldn’t be here 13 (?!) years later without all of you and your continued support. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you and your love of proper coffee.’
