Amazon MGM Studios mark Young Sherlock’s streaming success
Amazon MGM Studios announced that the series Young Sherlock has reached the top position on Prime Video worldwide. The studio wrote on X: “The obsession is real. Young Sherlock is #1 on Prime Video worldwide. Stream the full series now.” The post was published on 10 March 2026 and highlighted the show’s global streaming ranking on the platform.
Matthew Parkhill created the mystery television series Young Sherlock, while Peter Harness and Guy Ritchie developed the project. The series draws inspiration from Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes books, which themselves expand on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. Amazon Prime Video premiered the series on 4 March 2026 and released all eight episodes simultaneously.
The story follows a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes studying at Oxford University before he becomes the well-known detective. Hero Fiennes Tiffin portrays the character as an inexperienced and undisciplined amateur investigator. The plot begins when a murder at Oxford threatens Holmes’s freedom. He then investigates a case connected to a global conspiracy.
The main cast also includes Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an, and Max Irons as Mycroft Holmes. Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone portray Sherlock’s parents, while Colin Firth appears as Sir Bucephalus Hodge. Additional supporting roles include Ravi Aujla, Holly Cattle, Ian Midlane, Simon Delaney, Adam James, Rachel Shelley, Numan Acar, and Scott Reid.
Production of the series began in the United Kingdom in July 2024, with filming taking place in Bristol, Cardiff, and locations including Jerez, Cádiz, and Seville. Filming wrapped in late February 2025. On Rotten Tomatoes the series holds an 83 percent approval rating from 41 reviews, while Metacritic lists a score of 66 out of 100 from 17 critics.
