New NCIS Spin-off TV Show Announced, Cast Includes Returning Star & More

A new NCIS spin-off show is in the works.

While best known for his career as a rapper, LL Cool J has played Special Agent Sam Hanna in a handful of episodes of NCIS. The character previously led his own spin-off show, NCIS: Los Angeles, which ran from 2009 to 2023. Additionally, Sam Hanna also appeared in several episodes of another spin-off, NCIS: Hawai’i, which lasted for three seasons.

What do we know about the new NCIS spin-off show?

Per Deadline, a new NCIS show is now in the works at CBS. It is titled NCIS: New York, and it will see LL Cool J reprise his role as Sam Hannah as he “returns to his hometown of New York City to their field office.”

Also starring in NCIS: New York is Scott Caan as a “roguish agent.” The two characters will help “lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world.”

The series will air on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. This puts it between the flagship NCIS show, which airs at 8 p.m., and NCIS: Origins, which follows at 10 p.m.

“NCIS: Sydney will join the lineup in midseason, replacing NCIS: Origins,” the article notes.

NCIS: New York comes from The Pitt creator R. Scott Gemmill, who was also the showrunner for NCIS: Los Angeles for seven seasons. Additionally, Gemmill wrote all 14 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles.

The article explains, “NCIS: Los Angeles ran from 2009 to 2023, centered around the high-stakes world of a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals, who pose a threat to the nation’s security. It also starred Chris O’Donnell, Medalion Rahimi, Linda Hunt, Daniela Ruah, Eric Christian Olsen, Barrett Foa, and Renée Felice Smith.”

LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna will appear in two forthcoming NCIS episodes that arrive on April 21 and April 28.
