Gilberto Mora continues to prove he is one of the biggest breakout stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the Mexico national team. Since earning a place in the starting lineup, the young midfielder has become one of the most influential players in Javier Aguirre‘s squad.
Aguirre has started Mora in Mexico’s last two matches, and the teenager has responded with outstanding performances. While Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez have grabbed the headlines with their goals, the Club Tijuana academy product has been instrumental in dictating play and providing balance to El Tri.

Reports claim Gilberto Mora is headed to the Premier League
Even before establishing himself at the 2026 World Cup, Gilberto Mora had already attracted significant interest from Europe thanks to his breakthrough with Club Tijuana in Liga MX, as well as his impressive performances for Mexico at the 2025 Gold Cup and the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In recent months, multiple reports have linked the Mexican prospect with European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United. However, TNT Sports journalist Rodrigo Lara claimed that Mora’s move to the Premier League in 2027 is virtually secured, although he declined to reveal which club has won the race.
“In six months, during the winter transfer window, Gilberto Mora is going to take off. He’s going to compete in the Premier League. I can’t say which club, but in six months Gilberto Mora will be a Premier League player,” Lara said.

Manchester United pulls out of the race for Gilberto Mora
According to reports from England, that destination will not be Manchester United, as the Premier League club has reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign the Mexican youngster despite monitoring his development over the past six months.
“The Manchester United have pulled out of the race to sign Mexican wonderkid Gilberto Mora. United have been closely monitoring Mora for the last six months. Club scouts have also tracked his progress during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the midfielder has helped Mexico reach the Round of 16.”
The teenager’s outstanding performances have also attracted interest from several of United’s biggest rivals, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
“While United remain committed to identifying the world’s brightest young talents, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is unwilling to enter a bidding war for Mora,” the Mirror reported on Wednesday.
All that remains now is for Gilberto Mora to turn 18 on October 14, the minimum age required for him to complete a move from Mexico to European football under FIFA regulations. Once he reaches that milestone, it will become clear which club has secured one of Mexican football’s brightest prospects and one of the standout revelations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
