A 65-year-old hiker has been struck by lightning on Lantau Peak, police have confirmed to HKFP.

The man was among a group ascending Lantau’s highest peak as part of the Hong Kong Hiking Meetup group. Police said he is in a conscious state.
The incident occurred at around noon.

According to HKFP reader Paul Christensen, who is related to one of the hikers, a group of nine stranded hikers took shelter, with the victim “conscious but in extreme shock.”
As of 2pm, police said authorities were in touch with the group.
Red rain signal
The Observatory issued a thunderstorm warning at 10:20am, an amber rain signal at 11:50am and a red rain signal at 12:15pm on Friday. The latter remains in force as of 12:30pm.
The red signal means that heavy rain has fallen, or is expected to fall, exceeding 50 millimetres in an hour. As a result, the Home Affairs Department’s Emergency Co-ordination Centre is in force, and afternoon-only school sessions have been cancelled.
