What to know about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Broadway stage show since Hamilton
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new musical Warriors is Broadway-bound. The production begins previews in March 2027. It will run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre which is located in New York City.
Miranda co-wrote Warriors with playwright Eisa Davis. The musical adapts the 1979 film The Warriors. The movie was based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel. Miranda and Davis shared their excitement in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“With Warriors, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive.” They also spoke about bringing the project to Broadway in 2027. “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can’t wait.”
The story follows a New York City gang who must travel across the city after being framed. The gang is accused of killing rival leader Cyrus. Along the way, they fight to survive and get home.
Miranda and Davis added a major twist. In their version, women play all gang members. The unique choice gives fans a fresh perspective on the classic story. The duo first introduced the project in 2024. They released a concept album featuring several music stars.
The production reunites several key Hamilton collaborators. Jenny Koons will direct the musical and Andy Blankenbuehler will co-direct and choreograph the show.
For now, Broadway fans finally know when Lin-Manuel Miranda’s next major stage project will arrive. After more than a decade since Hamilton opened, Warriors is officially preparing for its Broadway debut in 2027.
