Gasgoo Munich- Leapmotor launched the Lafa5 Ultra at the Auto China 2026 on April 24, offering two variants—the 500Ultra and 600Ultra—priced between 118,800 and 124,800 yuan for a limited time. The offer runs through May 31. By bringing in Tim from Mediastorm as a guest host, the company sent a clear message: this car is aimed at young buyers who demand performance and intelligence, but remain sensitive to price.

Since its debut late last year, the Lafa5 has sold over 20,000 units in three months, securing a foothold in the pure-electric coupe market priced between 90,000 and 130,000 yuan. Positioned as the top-tier trim, the Ultra keeps its price under 150,000 yuan while delivering distinct upgrades in styling, handling, intelligence, and comfort. It isn’t just about stuffing the spec sheet; it aims to answer a specific question: what does the ideal sports coupe look like for today’s youth?

Start with the exterior. With a height of 1,510 mm and a width of 1,880 mm, the car strikes a low, wide stance. More importantly, Leapmotor has made a front splitter, side skirts, rear wing, and diffuser standard factory features—generating nearly 18 kg of downforce at 160 km/h. The badge gets a blacked-out treatment, while three exclusive paint options join the lineup: Thunderbolt Yellow, Starlight Green, and Liquid Silver.
The entire package comes installed from the factory, sparing owners the headache of aftermarket modifications or passing annual inspections. This “factory-tuned” approach addresses a very real concern for many young drivers.

The chassis and powertrain are where the real engineering shines. The rear-mounted motor delivers a maximum output of 180 kW, pushing 0-100 km/h acceleration into the 5-second range. A Chinese-European team jointly tuned the chassis: the ride height was lowered by another 10 mm, front and rear anti-roll bars were strengthened, and low-speed damping was increased by 15%, sharpening the steering response notably. The system allows for full ESP deactivation, handing final control of vehicle dynamics back to the driver—a rarity at this price point.
It rides on 19-inch Hankook iON evo high-performance staggered tires, delivering 0.97 g of lateral grip and a braking distance of 36.01 meters from 100 km/h. Combined with a torsional stiffness of 34,500 N·m/deg, a 50:50 weight distribution, and a pure rear-wheel-drive layout, this chassis is more than just impressive numbers on paper—it is the hardware foundation for genuine driving enjoyment.
On the intelligence front, the Lafa5 Ultra is equipped with 27 sensing hardware units, including LiDAR. Paired with a Qualcomm 8650 driving chip offering 200 TOPS of computing power, it achieves city navigation assistance without relying on high-definition maps, covering common scenarios like ramp merging and intelligent lane changes.
The cabin runs on a Qualcomm 8295 chip and supports voice interaction via dual AI large models—DeepSeek and Tongyi Qwen—handling dialect recognition and voiceprint sensing with ease. Leapmotor also made a significant commitment: provided the hardware permits, intelligent driving software updates will be free for the long term.
This aligns with Leapmotor’s strategic vision for the “2026 Intelligent Driving Era.” The A10 is already the first model under 100,000 yuan to offer “door-to-door” autonomous driving assistance. Vehicles based on the LEAP 3.5 architecture will receive nationwide city navigation assistance in May, with “door-to-door” functionality arriving in the third quarter. All eight models currently on sale now offer test drives for city navigation assistance.

Comfort hasn’t been sacrificed for performance. The interior features “Wind Grey” suede-like materials covering 4.48 square meters; front seats come standard with 8-point massage, ventilation, and heating. The cabin boasts 86% space efficiency and over 80% soft-touch coverage, with fabrics passing EU OEKO-TEX environmental certification. Add in a 1.02-square-meter panoramic roof with an electric sunshade, and Leapmotor makes its point: a sports coupe doesn’t have to come at the cost of daily comfort.

Finally, a look at Leapmotor’s global performance. Global deliveries exceeded 110,000 units in the first quarter. Overseas wholesale shipments surpassed 40,000 units, a record high. Europe was particularly strong: registrations hit 23,300 units across 16 countries, a 726.5% year-on-year surge. In the EU’s 12 core markets, pure-electric sales reached around 17,000 units, placing Leapmotor first among Chinese EV brands.

The Lafa5 is set to launch in 26 European countries this June. Leveraging its partnership with Stellantis, Leapmotor International achieved annual profitability in just its second year, covering over 40 countries and regions with more than 2,000 sales channels. This “light-asset, high-speed” globalization model is carving out a distinctive path for Chinese EV makers expanding abroad.
