LaLiga to close LaLiga+ streaming platform

LaLiga is to shut down its OTT streaming service LaLiga+, bringing an end to the platform after almost 10 years in operation.

The service will cease broadcasts on June 30, 2026.

Originally launched in 2015, LaLiga+ was created to increase visibility for minority sports and selected football content, operating alongside the league’s traditional broadcast partnerships.

In a statement reported by Spanish sports daily AS, LaLiga+ said: “After almost a decade bringing sport closer to thousands of fans, LALIGA+ will cease broadcasts on 30 June 2026 at midnight.”

LaLiga said the platform had “fulfilled its cycle and the objectives for which it was created”.

The league added that many of the sports and federations carried by the platform have since developed their own audiences and direct distribution strategies.

The closure also reflects wider changes in streaming distribution. According to AS, LaLiga said audience consumption has become increasingly fragmented across multiple services and platforms, making open distribution models more relevant than a standalone OTT proposition.

LaLiga+ had at times been viewed as a possible foundation for a broader direct-to-consumer football strategy, similar to streaming models used by major US sports leagues. However, LaLiga has continued to prioritise rights agreements with broadcasters and streaming partners including DAZN and Movistar Plus+.

Last year, LaLiga renewed domestic rights deals with DAZN and Movistar+ through to 2032.
